Slam Wager betting glossary

Betting concepts, decoded.

One reviewed definition for each concept used across Slam Wager guides and product explanations. Definitions explain price and uncertainty; none promise an outcome.

American odds

American odds express potential profit relative to a 100-unit reference stake: positive odds show profit on 100 units, while negative odds show the stake needed to profit 100 units.

Also called: moneyline odds, US odds

Implied probability

Implied probability is the break-even rate represented by a quoted price before adjusting for the sportsbook margin or comparing it with an independent probability estimate.

Also called: break-even probability, odds-implied probability

Sportsbook margin

Sportsbook margin is the amount by which the implied probabilities across mutually exclusive outcomes exceed 100%, subject to the selected market and prices.

Also called: vig, vigorish, juice

Expected value

Expected value estimates the average profit or loss per wager under a stated win-probability assumption and quoted payout; it is not a prediction of one result.

Also called: EV, positive EV, +EV

Closing line value

Closing line value compares a wager's recorded entry price with a clearly identified closing price for the same market; it does not prove skill, causation, or profit.

Also called: CLV, closing-price comparison

Line movement

Line movement is an observed change in a quoted market price or line between documented timestamps and sources; by itself it does not identify who wagered or why the price changed.

Also called: market movement, price movement, steam move

Betting unit

A betting unit is a personal reference amount used to express stake size consistently; it is not a fixed dollar amount, probability, or guarantee of bankroll safety.

Also called: unit, 1u, stake unit

Confidence score

A confidence score is a product-specific ranking or estimate whose meaning must be stated by the publisher; it must not be assumed to equal a calibrated win probability.

Also called: confidence, model confidence

SLAM Value

SLAM Value is Slam Wager's price-aware wager-quality score used to rank reviewed opportunities; it is not a literal win probability or guaranteed result.

Also called: SLAM score, star rating

Odds and probability calculator

Convert a valid American price and, optionally, compare it with your own stated probability assumption. The output is arithmetic, not a prediction or recommendation.

Probability assumptions can be wrong. Positive calculated EV does not guarantee profit, and it must never be used to justify chasing losses or exceeding a preset entertainment budget.

Responsible use and methodology

Definitions and calculators explain terms and arithmetic; they do not recommend a wager or promise an outcome. Use fixed entertainment limits and review the responsible gaming resources before wagering.
